Salsa ON1 is one of the most popular ways of dancing Salsa in Texas and in most parts of the world. It’s a fun and energetic partner dancing style where there is exciting turn patterns and footwork shines executed to the beat of the song. Most dance studios begin everyone on this style and later progress students to other styles such as ON2 or Cuban Style. This style can be learned in two different ways linear or circular motion. Linear is where you execute all the moves on a line and circular you continue to go in a circle to the right. An easy way to tell if you’re learning on 1 is if you’re breaking forward or back on 1. The break is where you step forward with your left as a lead and back with the right as a follow. The beat is 1, 2, 3 with a pause on 4 and 5, 6, 7 with a pause on the 8. Salsa is also on the popular rhythm of quick quick slow “a.k.a QQS”, quick quick slow. One of our favorite dance companies Tropical Gem performs and teaches ON1 below is a performance video.
